Diversity in community businesses: Establishing a baseline.

Power to Change (PtC) is the independent trust that supports community businesses in England. PtC commissioned Braw Data to construct a baseline dataset with robust measures of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), allowing the funder to analyse the extent to which the community business sector is led by or represents disadvantaged groups.

We mapped a DEI data standard against a large-scale dataset of PtC grantees and the Community Business Market Survey 2022. The result was a cleaned, linked dataset with standardised measures of leadership and representation for eleven DEI groups, and a comprehensive analysis of the extent to which community businesses are led by or represents particular groups.
